Hi All,
My friend got laid off on Dec 19th 2008. And he got another job, but the new employer is not providing him Group Health Insurance. They are asking to take him Individual Family plan and saying they will reimburse. But the problem is, he is in Albany, NY and he got to know that they are no individual plans in NY which is really odd.
He wants to use COBRA but it's really expensive 1200$ per month. But luckily we saw that there is a 65% discount for people who laid off between 1st Sept 2008 and Dec 31st 2008.
But want to know whether H1b employees are eligible for this discount or only American Citizens and Green Card holders?

I am an F1 visa student and am marrying my sweetheart who is an American citizen. We are planning to pick up the marriage license tomorrow, in MA. I know one of the questions is "residence". Do I put my local residence (I've been here for about 6 years) or my foreign residence? I do not want to jeopardize my status.

since u'r a student in legal status & u live in US for last 6 yr..... so u've to have a US address..... i think it will be best to put US address..... it will keep things simple..... there is nothing wrong with u having a US address.... becoz u live here......

I am planning to file my I-485 and for that I got my Birth Certificate from India and have a question related to it. The name provided for my Passport and all other documents is "Rajendra Upadhya Kumbhasi" but in my Birth Certificate they have included my father's name along with my name i.e. my Birth Certificate has "Rajendra Murlidhar Upadhya Kumbhasi". I would like to know if this could be a issue and if so will a affidavit help me resolve this issue.
Please let me know.

In my opinion, one of the more intriguing product announcements from Nikon today was the Coolpix 8700. If it improves significantly from the Sony, that could be a killer product. Right now, Canon is lacking a bit in the true consumer DSLR market. But then again, PMA is right around the corner. The Sony has Zeiss glass and 28mm WA. But the CA and Noise are horrible. Isn't the Nikon 8700 has same sensor size as the Sony 828? Wait and see how the Nikon performs in those deaprtments!

I have valid H1 visa with Company A till sep 2009. I have applied for h1 transfer to company B in june 2008 and it's still pending without any RFE. I got an offer from Company C. Can I transfer my H1 to company C, when H1 transfer with company B is pending? Company A has revoked my H1. will that in any way affect my h1 transfer??

There used to be a number of threads created / discussed every day on IV... those good ol' days... a lot of good discussions on a variety of topics, including immigration:D
But of late I am seeing fewer threads on IV and wondering what could be the reason.
1. Either a lot of folks got greened and stopped visiting IV
2. or a lot of folks lost jobs & abandoned their GC process
3. or a lot of folks got frustrated and left for their home countries
Is this just me feeling this way or...?

I believe filing CPT and working on CPT till EAD (if filed with 485) arrives in hand should not affect pending I-485 at all.
Can somebody else in this situation confirm this?

What if the case is where I want to take up a new full time position and convert my current full time position to part time.....I guess one way to do it would be to transfer H1 to the new employer...wait for an approval and then file for another concurrent H1 for the part time job with the old company..But the problem is I'd have to wait until new approval comes...and also convince both companies to shell out 2k plus in filing fees....does any one have a better alternative ? My I-140 approved. Based on the July 2007 Visa Bulletin revision threat on June 30th, I have prepared and submitted I-485 package with all necessary documents along with approved I-140 copy. I sent the package to Nebraska Service Center and it reached on July 2nd. In the last minute, my company also submitted the I-485 package. My company sent the package on July 1st and reached on July 2nd at Texas Service Center. This was happened due to some communication gap between my company and me.
My questions are:
1. Will there be any problem if there are two package submitted? One from me and one from my company law firm?
2. Will they reject one of the package? If so, which one will be returned?
3. Is it possible to withdraw one of the package?

Guys I am posting this under General Information knowing that this is definitely not an immigration related question. So, please control your urge for giving negative reps. I have booked a wheelchair for my mom who cannot walk properly in Frankfurt airport during her transit of flights. Do they generally take them till the next flight gate? Also, there is only one hour time gap between these 2 flights? Will this be sufficient for them to take her to the next flight gate. Has anyone used this service for your parents and what are their experiences?
