I'm a little confused about my options in starting my H1 extension process and applying for my wife's H4 application.
Here is my current status :
6 yr H1-B period is ending on Dec 22, 2009. I'm getting married in India in October and will apply for my wife's H4 immediately after. Here are my questions :
1. Will there be any problem with my wife's H4 application if there are just 2 months of validity left on my H1 visa?
NO, THERE SHOULDN'T BE A PROBLEM. HOWEVER, IT WOULD BE BETTER IF YOU HAD AN APPROVED EXTENSION OR AT LEAST AN EXTENSION RECEIPT NOTICE TO SHOW THE CONSULATE.
2. I could potentially start my H1 extension process now. I'm eligible for a 3 year extension since the Priority date of Jan 3, 2006, on my EB2 application is not current. If I was to start my extension process now, my approval may not happen before October and my lawyer says there may be some problems if I travel outside the country on a pending H1 application. Should I apply for my H1 extension now or after I come back to the US in November?

Thanks for the reply. But like I mentioned, this case was approved on 5/8/2008 and the approval notice was sent on 5/8/2008 and received on 5/14/2008. Between 5/8/2008 and 5/22/2008 the status was "approved, approval notice sent".
Afterwards since 5/22/2008 the online status became "new documents sent on 5/22/2008, you should receive it within 30 days". I do not think this "new document" is the approval notice coz I even received it before they sent. Just curious what could this "New document" be. Would it change the status of my I-140 (like revoke or withdraw or RFE)?
I had a similar experience. Four weeks after my I-140 was approved, I had another LUD and when I checked the online status, it had the same message that you mentioned. When I asked my lawyer, he told me that it ususally means that the employer has received a copy of the approval as well. And sure enough, 3 days later, I found out from HR that they received the I-140 approval letter and they wanted to know what to do with it.

Satyam used to have the policy of not sponsoring green cards for foreign employees in the US - except under very rare circumstances.

Yep - got mine 2 months back. Docs to carry
- Original social security card.
- Original EAD card
- The first lady asked me to bring the employment letter. I did not have it with me, I went home to get it and got in another line, that dude did not even look at it.
- Passport and I-94 (They did not check this) I took it just in case
- Cash - 25$
You will get a 5 year license, but it will say that you are a temp visitor till your EAD expires. You will have to take your EAD in when the new EAD comes in.

I doubt that. Returning after a long period on AP would sure make the POE officer grill that person, as AP is supposed to be used in case of emergencies and humanitarin grounds. I was grilled at IAD on return after 30 days and the POE officer asked me to present documentary evidence of the emergency to travel outside US.
The officer you met did not know the difference between AP applied on humanitarian grounds and AP applied based on pending I-485.
My wife entered NEWARK after 6 months in India ( using I-485 based AP) and no questions were asked although the waiting time inside the secondary inspection room was really long.

It is true that many politicians would not risk their bacon weeks away from the election. Don't count that necessarily after the elections the situation will necessarily change. Sen. Frist himself argued that he is OK passing the enforcement only bill within the next couple of weeks and he has said that he expects to leave the immigration thing for the NEXT CONGRESS to decide. Now the key question remains; will enough pro amnesty or even pro immigration lawmakers remain in their job after elections in November ? It remains to be seen. I would love to be optmistic, but if enough incumbents get kicked out of the office, then our chances are not necessarily better next year.

2. Zoe Lofgren (Chair, House subcommittee on Immigration),
3. Harry Reid (Senate Majority Leader),
4. Ted Kennedy (Chair, Senate House subcommittee on Immigration).
Come on TIGER these are the sites to vent your frustation. You will get your GC (overnight delivery or even personal delivery by Nancy Pelosi + Harry Reid) with the above kind of posts. It will also show the way to the dumb contributing IV members.

Agree with you Infinite_Patience_GC.......for desis I would not recommend doing a full time MBA unless you get into top 10. Foreign students are having a hard time finding a job even at top 10 schools these days.
Although one good thing about part time is that it is less risky and usually lot of big companies help in reimbursing some of the tuition.

it used to be that h4 visa period was counted as part of 6 years of h1b but not any more. But that is not a significant reason to stay on h4 visa.

I just got my I-140 approval and my priority date is 02/2008. I fall in the "All Charge-ability Areas Except Those Listed" EB3 and the March bulletin PD is 01MAY05. My lawyer is telling me I cant apply yet and since I am 2 semesters away from completing my Master's I should finish the course and just apply in the EB2 class. I dont have the funds to apply for this whole damn thing all over again. Can someone please help!? I've honestly turned suicidal dealing with this BS..

Folks,
How are the taxi charges from Chennia airport to the town or station ? Do the drivers charge whatever they feel like or is it controlled?
My parents are leaving back from the US and will be landing in Chennai, they are not from Chennai....so not sure if I should try to book a taxi before hand...or the charges are controlled ? Also, do they have something like pre-paid taxi ?
The flight (emirates) lands at 3 or 4 am.
Also, any recomendations for Hotels ? Ideally near the railway station.

try agoda.com. I always book through them and cheaper than yatra and makemytrip. Sometimes agoda's price is higher than yatra so you have to compare. Just choose a hotel and then compare the price with these three websites. In the last 2 years I Booked hotels in chennai through agoda at least 6 times and everytime the price was atleast 500 to 1000 rs cheaper than other websites. I am talking about 3 and 4 stars.

A few website people are posting links on such threads soliciting business and traffic. We are deleting such posts. Despite requests a few such sites have refused to put IV banners on their sites, deleted our posts or asked for money for any kind of publicity on their sites. Whatever my Lawyer has done , has not worked so far, I guess he sent copies of both I140's and a letter requesting to use the EB3 PD with the EB2 case.
My lawyer also done the same thing. However, TSC sent a reply back saying contact National Service Center.
